I started in banking at the age of 16 in the northeast, and graduated from the University of Richmond. After graduation I was recruited into the investment banking analyst program at Davenport &amp; Company, the oldest financial services firm in the south. I went on to work with large financial services institutions like First Union and then Wachovia, as well as real estate investment firms and consultancies. About 15 years ago, I founded what today is Filament Business Advisors, which is the only accredited dedicated small business consultancy in Virginia (ASBC). We have advised, bought, sold and/or taken equity positions in 20+ small businesses to date.

My experience is unusually broad, having had the benefit of everything from preparing $100+ million bond transactions for government clients, to preparing and delivering presentations to rating agency executives, to helping to shape the fiscal policies of some of Virginia's largest municipalities, to advising business owners on how to preserve their fortunes and plan for the future, to playing a key role in growing two real estate investment firms to diving head-first into startup after startup and bringing them to a level of profitability generally only seen in much larger firms (15% margins in an industry where 5% is the average, 500% increase in revenues within five years). The perspective gained has been invaluable.

And perspective is why I believe I could be a valuable expert witness to you. An expert witness, as a consultant and credible source of testimony, must be much more well rounded than a standard business executive. This role requires an individual who first and foremost can understand the facts of a case, and holistically pull the breadth and depth of their experience into forging a credible opinion based on both fact and presentation.

In addition to this, I have spent years developing business and law connections in Richmond, and beyond. As such, I know many of the partners at the top firms in Richmond, as well as at its many regional and local firms.
