David Flynn is a physician leader, anesthesiologist, and Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Dr. Flynn served as the Lead Physician for Mortality Reduction at UNC Medical Center during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading numerous quality initiatives and collaborating with clinicians throughout the hospital to save lives through improved care. Under Dr. Flynn's leadership, risk-adjusted mortality decreased by more than 20% between 2020-21. His team was recognized with the UNC Medical Center Quality and Safety Team Award for 2021

Prior to joining UNC, Dr. Flynn led Perioperative Quality Improvement at Mission Health, a multi-hospital system based in Asheville, NC. Under Dr. Flynn's leadership, Mission Hospital launched real-time decision support and analytics software that improved clinical care pathway adherence, nearly eliminated antibiotic re-dosing errors, decreased opioid usage, and reduced post-operative nausea. Dr. Flynn was recognized with Mission Health System's Quality Team Award in 2018, as team leader of the Anesthesia Opioid Reduction Initiative.

Clinically, Dr. Flynn has worked in both private practice and academic settings. As a faculty member at the University of North Carolina, he serves on the general anesthesiologist team, the obstetric anesthesia call team, and the regional anesthesia team for ambulatory surgery.
