Dr. med. Maurice Preter, MD is an experienced private practice and academic Psychiatrist, Neuropsychiatrist, Psychopharmacologist, and Neurologist in New York City. He is one of a small number of dually board certified specialists in both psychiatry and neurology. He speaks English, German and French and is licensed in New York, Germany/E.U., and Paris/France.

Dr. Preter offers psychiatric and neuropsychiatric forensic expertise to assist plaintiff and defense counsel, the courts, federal, State agencies, and international organizations.
Educated at the Universities of Munich, Germany and of Paris, France, he received his postgraduate specialty training in neurology and psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and is dually board certified in both specialties. He has researched and written about a wide range of neuropsychiatric topics, including stroke, sleep disorders, epilepsy, panic disorder, psychological trauma, and the history of neurology in China. Dr. Preter, a member of the psychiatry faculty of Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, continues to be internationally active as lecturer, medical educator and as clinical and medical-legal consultant. His particular interest is in the diagnosis and integrated treatment of conditions that overlap between neurology, psychological health and general medicine (e.g., head injury, chronic pain, Alzheimer's disease, dementia).
