James Patrick Murphy, MD, MMM, DFASAM is a nationally recognized physician leader and expert in Pain Management, Addiction Medicine and controlled substances prescribing. He is President of the Kentucky Society of Addiction Medicine and is the American Society of Addiction Medicine's delegate to the American Medical Association's Substance Use and Pain Care Task Force. Dr. Murphy is founder and CEO of Murphy Pain Center located in New Albany, Indiana. In addition, he serves gratis as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is also a past president of the Greater Louisville Medical Society. Dr. Murphy's credentials are exceptional: board certifications in Pain Medicine, Addiction Medicine, Anesthesiology, and Addiction Medicine. He was awarded the distinction of Distinguished Fellow, American Society of Addiction Medicine (DFASAM). His subspecialty Pain Medicine fellowship was at Minnesota's renowned Mayo Clinic, where he also served on the faculty of the Mayo Medical School. He earned a Master of Medical Management degree (MMM) from the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business. In recognition of his advocacy for universal access to quality healthcare, Dr. Murphy was selected for the prestigious Mayday Fellowship in Washington, DC. Dr. Murphy has created educational programs recognized by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure and the Federation of State Medical Boards. Nationwide he has given presentations in concert with government regulators, law enforcement, physician groups, and other community organizations. His work has been featured in a diversity of media ranging from medical journals, magazines and newspapers, to television, Internet sites, social media, and both the Kentucky and the Indiana board of medical licensure websites. A former Commander in United States Navy, Dr. Murphy served our nation as a decorated Naval Flight Surgeon aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. His overseas volunteering has included numerous surgical missions as an anesthesiologist with the Operation Smile.
