Description
Dr. Blank was elected President of IEEE-USA in 2014 by the 200,000 members of IEEE-USA. As President, he traveled to Canada, Europe, South America, and nationwide (including Capitol Hill) representing and pursuing the interests of the members. Dr. Blank has 40+ years of experience in the design, construction, and manufacture of electrical/electronic control and instrumentation systems. Many of these systems involved the control of motors, electronic devices, both ground and airborne vehicles, signal processing, machinery, and communication. During his term of office as President of IEEE-USA, • he was invited to the U.S. State Department (John Kerry, Secretary of State) to render his opinions on a variety of topics including Standards and Patents, • he submitted comments to the USA President's Office of Science and Technology as input to a proposed U.S. Strategy for American Innovation on ways the Administration could help technology companies' programs, • he was contacted by phone and email by several members of the Department of Justice, and by dozens of company executives in the USA and overseas, about various aspects of Patents and Standards. • he was the keynote speaker at the International Conference on Connected Vehicles in Vienna, Austria. Participants came from many countries including China. • he was the keynote speaker on Ethics at the first IEEE International Symposium on Ethics in Engineering, Science, and Technology. • he was the keynote speaker on Management in Science and Technology at the IEEE International Technology Management Conference. • he volunteered IEEE-USA to be the lead society sponsor of all engineering and technology organizations for National Engineers Week, and appeared on a live webcast with the University of Delaware President, the Provost, the Dean of Engineering, and the DuPont Chief Engineer and Engineering Vice President. Dr. Blank was a full-time Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at 3 universities – Illinois Institute of Technology, Northern Illinois University, and Marquette University. He earned several grants for his universities from industrial corporations to support students, research, and product development. He also taught part-time (while working full-time in industry) at UCLA and the University of Florida, Dr. Blank worked in industry as an Electronics Engineer for several years. Dr. Blank is also an Expert Engineering Consultant for more than 30 companies. Dr. Blank's skills and experience have enabled him to thoroughly investigate complex situations and to communicate his findings on a practical level so that lay people, attorneys, judges, and juries can easily understand his oral and written presentations.
