Dr. Jane K. McNaught is a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist. She has been in private practice for over 35 years and specializes in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder within the context of Civil, Criminal, and Family Law. With her long expertise in evaluating both alleged Adult and Child Sexual Assault Victims, she has been retained by both the Plaintiff and Defense. Dr. McNaught has also been hired as an expert by the Court to evaluate interview techniques with alleged sexual abuse victims. Dr. McNaught has been involved in over 1700 forensic evaluations in the areas of civil, criminal, and family law and testified on over 500 occasions. She has testified in District and Federal Court. In addition, she has been qualified and testified as an expert in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for both the US Army and Navy. Dr. McNaught is hired by the Prosecution as well as Defense to consult and testify on issues related to the Reliability of Child and Adult Sexual Assault Victims, Â Delayed Reporting, Recantation, and Evaluating Interview Techniques with Child and Adult victims. Dr. McNaught is further retained in criminal cases involving mental health issues that impact sentencing (examples: a young man assaults a police officer during his initial episode of bi-polar disorder; or a physician suffering from undiagnosed Major Depression steals amphetamines from the hospital).Â
In the area of family law, Dr. McNaught conducts high conflict custody evaluations which often involve diagnosing personality disorders. She has also frequently been obtained as an expert in evaluating Factitious Disorder Imposed on Self or Other (formerly referred to as Munchhausen by proxy) and Parental Alienation (PA), currently referred to as Child Psychological Abuse. Dr. McNaught can be retained to consult in cases where there are questions regarding PA and Child Psychological Abuse. Additionally,  Dr. McNaught conducts Court-Ordered evaluations when PA/ Child Psychological Abuse is suspected. She uses psychological testing to identify the particular causes of PA in each family. Dr. McNaught also provides testimony to the Court regarding  the dynamics of PA/Child Psychological Abuse and offers recommendations to restore the child's relationship with both parents. Dr. McNaught is also frequently asked to critique the reports of other forensic evaluators. In such cases, she is effective in demonstrating when another expert's conclusions are based on erroneous or speculative information. Her critiques have often resulted in the reports of others being withdrawn or ignored.
