Alexa J. Basilio, PharmD, BCOP is a board-certified oncology pharmacist at Emory University Hospital. As the clinical pharmacy specialist, Alexa works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to optimize supportive care and manage acute and chronic toxicities of treatment for various types of disease states including cancer. Alexa has hands on experience compounding and dosing various drugs (sterile and unsterile preparations). In addition, she is involved with clinical trials and develops drug order sets and protocols. Alexa also educates the clinical staff on safety initiatives and pharmacotherapy considerations.

As the pharmacy expert, Alexa provides expertise in the area of appropriate use of therapy (guideline- and evidence-based medicine, drug-disease match), drug safety (interactions, adverse reactions and effects, medication errors, overdose, inappropriate use or place of therapy), pharmacology (drug exposure, subsequent effects, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics), and pharmacy operations (drug distribution systems, pharmacoeconomics, stability, compounding, sterility). She has experience in expert medical freelance writing. Furthermore, she reviews research abstracts for various residency conference awards.

Dr. Alexa Basilio earned her pharmacy doctorate at University of Florida College of Pharmacy. She completed her postgraduate hematology/oncology specialty training at Moffitt Cancer Center, where she received the ASCO Conquer Cancer Merit Award for her excellence in research.

Dr. Alexa Basilio has completed the SEAK expert witness course that includes over 17 hours of expert witness training.

Dr. Alexa Basilio serves as an adjunct and assistant clinical instructor for various Colleges of Pharmacy and functions as the expert content presenter for the oncology pharmacotherapy courses. She enjoys mentoring and teaching residents and students and is passionate about giving back to the profession of pharmacy.
